70 Containers Removed for Inspection in Rotterdam: A Signal for the Logistics Market
The logistics market is witnessing another sign of increased regulatory scrutiny at Europe’s major transport hubs. On 8 June 2026, Dutch customs authorities removed approximately 70 containers from a vessel in the Port of Rotterdam for inspection. This development reflects heightened oversight of transit cargo and a growing number of selective customs examinations.
Against this backdrop, foreign trade participants are advised to take into account the increased risks associated with routing shipments through Rotterdam, particularly for cargo categories subject to transit restrictions through the territory of the Russian Federation.
In this regard, the use of Rotterdam is not recommended for shipments prohibited from transiting through Russia. Alternative routes through Turkey are increasingly being considered for such cargo flows.
At the same time, Rotterdam remains a viable option for both full-container-load (FCL) and less-than-container-load (LCL) shipments destined for CIS countries, provided the goods are permitted for transit through Russian territory.
Evropeir, a resident company of the Association of Exporters and Importers (AEI), has been providing international FCL and LCL transportation services since 2022, offering end-to-end logistics support and customs coordination in an evolving regulatory environment.
