AEI Assesses the Impact of Russia’s New Restrictions on Armenia

The restriction on the import of quarantine-controlled products from Armenia and their transit through Russian territory will undoubtedly be a sensitive measure for Armenian suppliers, stated Artur Leer, President of the Association of Exporters and Importers (AEI) and Managing Partner of Lex Alliance Law Firm.

However, in an interview with Lenta.ru, he emphasized that the decision is driven by objective regulatory and control considerations rather than political motives.

“For Armenia, this creates additional challenges both in supplying products to the Russian market and in using Russian logistics routes for further exports to other EAEU member states,” explained Mr. Leer.

At the same time, he noted that it is important to understand that the rationale behind these restrictions is not political in nature. Rather, it is linked to objective control and regulatory requirements applicable to the relevant categories of goods.
